Gary Clark Jr. is a straight gunslinger. A protégé of the Texas blues scene, he cut his teeth playing bar gigs in Austin, TX. This man put in the work and it shows. He's got that Texas twang down.
A while back, I saw Gary live at Fillmore in San Francisco. I got up close and heard blazing guitars make my dreams come true. That guitar tone oozed pure fuzz overdriven rock ’n’ roll. It made me fall in love with blues all over again. It turns out I wasn't the only one.
Eric Clapton was so struck by Gary's performance at Crossroads Music Festival that he wrote him a letter afterwards. It read:
“Thank you – you make me want to play again.”
Now playing on Ruth's Jukebox. A hand picked rotation of tunes (aptly named the Tuesday Tune-up) for your enjoyment.
